I’m off to the Himalayas!

Chamonix landscape

In just a few hours, I’ll leave the Danish autumn and head to Kathmandu and the Khumbu region of Nepal (around Everest). I am going with the nice British folks of Jagged Globe and will stay for a total of four weeks. During that time, we will do an Everest BC trek, then climb three peaks around 6000m of altitude: Pokalde, the very popular Island Peak and finally Lobuje East, before crossing the Cho La pass and heading south in the Gokyo valley. This is what Jagged Globe call the Khumbu Climber expedition, and this will be my first venture in the Himalayas.

My role on the trip will be to document it, mostly with still photography but also with video footage, and I will make a short film about it when I get back home. In the meantime, I will be unavailable until my return on November 12th, and as a consequence this website, along with my photoblog will be on hold, unless there are enough internet cafes in Nepal for me to post some quick reports on the go.

I am all packed, batteries are charged and checklists complete, I will now try to get a few hours of sleep before the 24 hours plane ride to Nepal tomorrow. See you in a month!

October wallpaper is here

As every month, here comes the new wallpaper. This time, it’s of the Punta Union pass, below the mighty Nevado Taulliraju on the Santa Cruz trek. One of the most beautiful spots of the Cordillera Blanca, in my opinion!

You can get this wallpaper (along with all the olders ones) in resolution up to 1920×1200 on the usual page.

Tour de bloc, indoor bouldering competition

# Tour de Bloc, indoor bouldering competition

Last Saturday was the final installment in the Danish edition of Tour de Bloc, an indoor bouldering competition. It took place in my local climbing club here in Copenhagen, København Klatreklub. Since my back was hurting, I didn’t participate but spent the day shooting instead. The light was abysmal, so the vast majority of my images is at ISO 1600 with the Samyang 85 f/1.4. Manual focus of fast moving action in a dark place at f/1.4 is certainly a big challenge, and I missed countless good shots because focus was off, but the final results were pretty good, I thought.

Here is a short showcase of my favourite images (click on them to see bigger versions). More can be seen in the online gallery.
